Project: Importing Auto Parts from China to Ethiopia
Client: AutoParts France, a distributor of aftermarket automotive parts based in Marseille
Objective: Source and import a range of competitively priced auto parts from China to supply AutoParts France’s distribution centers across France. Handle all logistics, customs clearance and quality assurance.
Sourcing
- Researched and identified 3 reputed manufacturers in China capable of producing steering gears, brake pads, wheel hubs and other auto parts as per client’s specifications
- Negotiated with manufacturers on MOQ, pricing, quality standards and production capacity to finalize best supplier
- Worked with client and supplier to develop final product specifications, dimensions, materials etc.
- Established comprehensive supplier contract covering pricing terms, quality control requirements, production timelines and more
Quality Inspection and Control
- Coordinated initial product sampling and on-site inspections at the supplier factory in Shanghai by our QA team
- Ensured samples meet all quality criteria and final approvals provided for production
- Set up quality inspection checkpoint at the supplier end before shipment dispatch
- Inspected product batches upon arrival at our warehouse in France. Rejections were documented and immediately elevated to supplier for action
Logistics and Shipment
- Planned optimal shipment routes and timelines for ocean and land transportation from Shanghai to Marseille
- Consolidated orders from supplier’s factory to our warehouse in Shanghai for cost efficiency
- Managed freight forwarding, ocean shipping booking, inland haulage and port handling
- Coordinated with freight forwarders to meet critical deadlines for clearing Chinese and French customs without delays
- Provided visibility into real-time shipment progress, ETAs, documents and status updates to client
Results:
- Successfully imported over 2000 MT of auto parts valued at EUR 5 Million over a 2 year period
- Ensured order fulfillment and shipping timelines were met to client’s satisfaction
- Achieved 10% cost savings on logistics through our supplier partnerships and shipment consolidation
- Enabled client’s expansion into 3 new French cities by supplying their distribution centers with imported auto parts
